3 Tips For Helping With Cocaine Addiction Sobriety

Submitted by joe on August 28, 2010 – 3:07 pmNo Comment

Cocaine addiction and recovery may be incredibly difficult, and it’s harder for many than others. The good news is that cocaine is not, really, the most addictive drug in the world when it comes to CHEMICAL addiction. Or at least, it’s really no more addictive than, say, junk food and soda pop in that way. Yes, your body will crave it, but this isn’t where the heart of cocaine addiction lies. The bad news: Cocaine is one of the most EMOTIONALLY addictive drugs in the world.

Cocaine makes you feel like a superhero, it really does. It makes you feel hundreds of feet tall, beautiful, powerful, sexy, strong. On cocaine, you feel like you could fight the world while driving a convertible through a ring of fire and land in a swimming pool full of supermodels… This is why the crash is so hard. When you come back to reality and realize that that wasn’t you, it can be painful… And you want some more cocaine, immediately. Who doesn’t want to feel like that all the time? Unfortunately, cocaine is not the way, and… It can even kill you.

If you’re dealing with addiction and ready to quit, follow these steps…

Just Quit

This makes it sound too easy, of course. But, some people can, and do, quit cocaine by simply… Just quitting. Take the drugs you have in the house and get rid of them. If you have a friend who only ever comes over to do drugs or provide you with drugs, sever ties with them. Even if they’re a very close friend, they need to either respect that you’re kicking the habit and start hanging out with you in a drug free context, or they need to leave you alone, because your well being SHOULD be that important to them.

Get a Healthy Addiction

For many of us, an addiction is more of a need to fill some void in our lives than anything. We may not be depressed, we may not be necessarily chemically addicted, we just need something to do, something that we can push and push and push. If this is you, you may be able to quit by getting a healthier addiction. After you’ve sobered up, you can replace drugs with working out or drawing or writing or any number of other interests. They’re all more rewarding than drug and alcohol addiction.

Find a Program

If you just can’t seem to quit, then maybe you need to raise the white flag and admit that you need help. Look, it’s better to sign yourself up for a program than it is to suffer the embarrassment of an intervention. If you’re at the end of your rope, just bite the bullet and do whatever you have to do to get clean.
