Thank you for the informative work you have put into creating this page. I have spent hours researching and even called 800 hotlines for answers. Your pages really covered many questions and gave excellent direction toward next steps.

My sister and I have made a decision to help our older brother become clean. He's an addict of over a decade, 53 still living off our mom whose husband lost his job, as a mechanic, last June. Mom's aware of his habit and does not approve of it, but he has convinced her that he will die without the heroin. Now she supports his habit financially. Which we feel is killing her inside because it goes against everything she has stood for all her life. She knows it's wrong and she doesn't want a son as an heroin addict but she completely feels she is his only hope. Bobby says he wants to be free of his addiction, he tried the methadone treatment as an outpatient for 3 years which my mom paid for. I guess in Washington state it's not free. Our family is struggling financially both my husband and my sister's husband lost their jobs over 2 years ago. I was relieved to read that there may be some free help for my brother.

Thank you again for making available this information, informative and supportive.

Sincerely,
Laura

I applaud Durban's efforts at helping addicts during this worldwide financial recession, knowing first hand what it costs to operate these programs.

For this reason, it is important that both addiction treatment providers and addicts alike make use of the growing online resources for successful addiction recovery.

Even if for many addicts online support may not alone be enough to overcome addiction, but it may be a start.

I am a recovering alcoholic, gambler, and other addiction problems. I published a book, Gripped by Gambling, where the readers can follow the destructive path of the compulsive gambler, a prison sentence, and then on to the recovery road. I am currently publishing a second book, Switching Addictions, that describes the challenges the addict encounters as they work toward recovery. I also publish an online newsletter, Women Helping Women, which has been on-line for more than ten years and is read by women around the world. I would like to suggest you add the link to the newsletter to your link page. (www.femalegamblers.info)

Sincerely,

The nalexone in Suboxone is not metabolized when used sublingually. It does NOT stop "addiction", even if it were metabolized.... and is only added to the buprenorphine to deter IV use because it can cause withdrawal in some users who try IV.

Suboxone treatment is a wonderful addition to our medication "arsenal" against opiate addiction...however it is not a replacement for methadone treatment. As long as there is no cure for opiate addiction, there will be use for methadone.
