Dealing With Cocaine Addiction And Recovery
Cocaine addiction and recovery can be difficult. Thankfully, cocaine is not as chemically addictive as certain other drugs like heroin, but this information is only marginally helpful to someone who is dealing with the habit. Whether it be emotional or chemical addiction, the result is the same. You simply can’t stop, even if you want to. Another example is cigarettes; they are so addictive because of both the chemical and the emotional aspect.
Cocaine makes you feel like a superhero; it really does. It makes you feel hundreds of feet tall, beautiful, powerful, sexy, strong. On cocaine, you feel like you could fight the world while driving a convertible through a ring of fire and land in a swimming pool full of supermodels. This is why the crash is so hard. When you come back to reality and realize that it wasn’t you in the dream, it can be painful. You want some more cocaine immediately, to keep the fantasy going. Who doesn’t want to feel like that all the time? Unfortunately, cocaine is not the way to live the good life and it can kill you.
If you’re struggling with addiction and you’re finally ready to go sober, try these methods of recovery…
Stop Doing It.
For some, this is impossible. For others, it’s the easiest thing in the world. Kiefer Sutherland famously went on record admitting that he did cocaine constantly for awhile to get into the character of Jack Bauer. He stated that he really enjoyed it, but that he simply quit cold turkey when it was time to get his act together. Not everyone has such self control. Put yourself to the test. Flush the drugs down the john and stop hanging out with your “drug friends”. The fact is, most “drug friends” aren’t friends at all, but there’s a communal vibe and sense of belonging in sharing a mutual addiction that seems attractive. However, when you quit, they go be gone.
2. Get a Healthy Habit
For many of us, addiction is an emotional thing more than anything else. Smokers smoke not so much because nicotine is addictive, but because a cigarette is a little buddy who’s there for you when nobody else is. Drinkers drink because they’re depressed (alcohol is, chemically, not really all that addictive at all). If you’re using cocaine or something harder, then there’s some hole, some void in your life that’s leaving you feeling empty without your chemical crutch. Try working out, reading more, drawing or writing. Try going to the movies more often and maintain a blog of reviews, try fixing up cars. Do anything you can to fill that emptiness in your life.
Find a Help Program
If neither of the above worked for you, then sorry to say, but you probably won’t be able to kick the stuff on your own. Look, you can either sign into rehab, or you can wait until your family and friends put you through the emotionally draining and humiliating experience of an intervention. One way or another, it’s time to raise the white flag and ask for help.
