Hiding Addictions Only Means Postponing The Inevitable
Vices are not strange to most of the people. Just that some of them are less likely to be accepted by a judgmental society. No one admits having a drinking problem. But in case of the drugs, it is even worse; so addicts do their best to hide the problem. It is a major obstacle in convincing them to get professional help from a drug rehab center.
We build relationships based on our image and credibility. Weaknesses are part of our nature, but that doesn’t make them more acceptable. So we keep them for small circles only. Once they complicate and become addictions, we are less likely to admit them. They jeopardize our professional status. They can ruin our friendships or even families. We create the image of decent lives and hope that people around us would respect that. It all ends with a public evidence of an addiction.
Drugs addictions are not a simple issue and they are definitely not vices taken to extreme. Being a drug addict means there is a heavy consumption. Because they are illegal, the addict faces a lot of dangers to get them and to own them.
Freedom is among the things people love most. Being under no surveillance helps the addict. Hence, going to a drug rehab center is not on the list. There are trained personnel that keep him under observation. Even if someone wants to get help, losing the freedom is not appealing and makes the decision tough.
Nobody likes pain. Physical pain is hard to handle and drugs come along with it. Going to a rehab center means to literally endure the pain. Using drugs makes the pain go away and helps develop the addiction. Hiding it is a surrogate, though it is a temporary one.
There are no certain causes for addictions, but above there are some reasons to hide them. Problems have causes and there is professional help to deal both with causes and effects. It is just a matter of choice to get back to a healthy life or to live a destroying illusion.
